(KMOV) – Two Alorton police officers were hospitalized with broken bones on Tuesday after a suspect attacked them with a baseball bat at the Graystone Apartments in Alorton, Illinois, officials in St. Clair County say.

That suspect was shot in the backside. He is accused of hitting one officer in the shoulder, and another officer in the arm.

The officers were hurt when they responded to a call for help at the Graystone Apartments. A woman in an upstairs unit said a man kicked in her door and had a baseball bat.

The woman’s mother says that three children were in the apartment at the time.

When police arrived, the suspect hit the officers with the bat.

Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting, which is standard practice when an officer fires a gun.
