(KMOV) – Thieves have targeted Brentwood Travel in Creve Couer for thousands of dollars in airline tickets and then booked flights in Africa.
Creve Couer police has investigated the crime and is now letting the FBI handle the case after the scammers initially sent an email disguised as a company the travel agency uses.
After an employee clicked into the email, the scammers were able to get into the system to book flights to and from cities in the Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Marshall Islands.
Airline computers were able to flag the tickets because of the suspicious activity. The travel agency would have been responsible for around $30000 for the eight to ten flights that were booked.
