(KMOV) -- Police are investigating a number of car break-ins that happened early Thursday morning near the Saint Louis University campus.
According to authorities, the incident happened around 2:30a.m. at a couple of parking lots located near Locust and Theresa.
Officers say eight to 10 cars were broken into. In each case, thousands of dollars of damage was done to the vehicles, but the thieves did not get away with much.
Police are calling these types of car break-ins, "smash and grabs."
These type of break-ins have been an ongoing problem in the St. Louis area.
Police plan to crack down on theft by requiring lots to close late at night, in addition to providing parking attendants and sufficient lighting.
