Charges filed in apparent joy ride

Authorities have charged a 23-year-old Glen Carbon man with taking a car without the owner's permission and damaging it during an apparent joy ride.

Larry L. Wilson was charged this week with offenses related to a motor vehicle, a felony. He was not in custody on Thursday afternoon.

The car, a 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix, was found on the morning of June 17 in the parking lot of the Bayberry apartment complex in Glen Carbon. The car's owner, Tamarah Wood, told Glen Carbon police that she found the Grand Prix in a different parking spot than she had left it the night before.

She told investigators that she left it there because she had been having mechanical problems and was unable to get the keys out of the ignition. At about 8 p.m. she decided to leave the keys there and return to her room for the night.

When she found the car the next morning, the gearshift lever had been broken and the car was strewn with paper, according to court records.
