More than 4,500 get shots in hepatitis A outbreak

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) -- Twenty-two people got sick and more than 4,500 people received preventive shots during a hepatitis A outbreak that crossed from Illinois into Iowa.

Rock Island County Health Department spokeswoman Theresa Foes says about 200 people came in for shots Wednesday. And a vaccine clinic at Rock Island High School drew more than 4,400 people Monday and Tuesday.

The outbreak included two Iowa cases. A spokeswoman for the Health Department in Scott County, Iowa, says both people had eaten at a McDonald's restaurant in Milan.

Two food handlers at the Illinois restaurant were among the sick, and a McDonald's patron has sued the fast-food company.

McDonald's has said no one who was sick knowingly worked at the restaurant after officials identified the problem.
