ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Three men are now charged in connection with the armed robbery of a Hallmark store in Belleville.
Belleville police Capt. Donald Sax said the incident unfolded at 6:34 p.m. when the department received a call about the robbery at Jan's Hallmark in the 2500 block of Green Mount Commons Drive.
Police said Corey Ford and Darryl Sharp held up the clerk while Cortez Beckman waited outside.
Sax said Detective Sgt. John Moody, who was traveling in an unmarked cruiser, saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspects' vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 64.
Moody began following the vehicle, which exited onto Highway 159 in Fairview Heights.
After exiting, the driver of the vehicle turned onto Ludwig Drive and stopped in the parking lot of Joe's Crab Shack. The trio inside the vehicle then fled on foot -- two crossed six lanes of I-64.
One of the suspects was taken into custody inside a nearby Red Lobster, another was found across the interstate inside Babies R Us and the third was also located across the interstate inside The Golf Galaxy. All three were apprehended within 35 minutes, Sax said.
The suspects were being held at the Belleville Police Department pending further investigation.
