Rep. William Clay asks U.S. Justice to look into alleged racism

Rep. William Lacy Clay has asked the U.S. Justice Department to look into an alleged instance of racial discrimination, after six black Washington University students were turned away from a Chicago nightclub.

Students at the school also planned a Wednesday afternoon news conference on the matter.

The six students were told they couldn't enter the Original Mother's bar because of a policy forbidding baggy pants. They offered to go to a nearby hotel to change, but say they were still denied admittance. Then, they say a white student switched jeans with one of the black students back at the hotel and was allowed to enter in the same baggy pants.

Mother's did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

It has said previously that security concerns, not racism, led to the decision.
