Hearings set for Mo. teen accused of killing girl

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A detention hearing scheduled Wednesday for the mid-Missouri teen accused of killing 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten will be closed to the public.

Cole County Juvenile Court Administrator Michael Couty says the 15-year-old suspect is to take part by videoconference. Judge Jon Beetem decided to close the hearing, which is being held to determine if the suspect should continue to be detained.

No decision has been made yet on closing a hearing set for Nov. 18 on whether to try the suspect as an adult.

Authorities have not released the suspect's name or gender. The 15-year-old was a neighbor of the dead girl in St. Martins, just outside Jefferson City. Elizabeth was found dead Friday.
