Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon says about 470 future medical professionals will receive training through the Caring for Missourians program.
Nixon said Wednesday that hundreds more will be able to learn at two-year colleges through the initiative, which is designed to expand health education programs at public universities.
The state's colleges and universities received $40 million this fiscal year allowing them to accept more students in the health care professions.
Nixon highlighted how the funds will be used during a news conference at the College of Optometry at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
