Cards continue to hush their doubters

ATLANTA (BaseballStL) -- All signs pointed to a Braves win Friday -- the recent success of starter Kris Medlen, the postseason troubles of Kyle Lohse and it was a road game for the Cardinals.

It was a setup that would make the healthiest Cardinals fan feel nauseous, including me.  I should have known better to doubt these guys after witnessing what happened last October.  But here we go again...
Medlen had been unbeatable this year and, in particular, the past ten games when he posted an 8-0 record with a miniscule ERA of 0.83.  Who would bet against a pitcher with those stats?

His counterpart, Kyle Lohse, has been terrific this season for the Cardinals, but had never recorded a win in nine career playoff appearances.  He also obtains a high 5.54 ERA in those postseason appearances.  Lohse allowed only two runs, both scored on a home run, in 5.2 innings pitched against the Braves Friday -- I should have known better than to doubt him.

Anything can happen in the postseason (as Cardinals fans can attest to).  For example, the Braves had the No. 1 defense in the National League, but committed three costly errors in a winner-moves-on showdown.

The only thing that seems to be a guarantee in the postseason is that if you doubt the Cardinals, they will make you look like a fool (like me).  Lesson learned.
