Chipper's costly error dooms Braves in the 4th inning

ATLANTA (BaseballStL) -- Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, who is set to retire at the season’s end, gifted the Cardinals with a costly error in the fourth inning of a 2-0 game.

After Carlos Beltran led off the inning with a single, starter Kris Medlen was able to get Matt Holliday to hit a sharp ground ball to Jones, who then airmailed his routine throw to second base into right field.  The error allowed Beltran to advance to third base and eventually score on an RBI double hit by Allen Craig.

Holliday and Craig eventually scored on a fielder’s choice and sacrifice fly to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.

Jones’ error led to two unearned runs.
