East St. Louis, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- An East St. Louis man has been charged with beating and robbing a Kentucky Fried Chicken manager who was heading home for the night.
Chauncy Gillespie, of the 1600 block of Wilford Avenue, was charged with one count of felony armed robbery.
Police say the manager of a KFC in the 4900 block of W. Main St. in Belleville closed and locked the store just before midnight on Sept. 26. He then headed to his car with the night deposit when Gillespie and a second suspect allegedly approached him.
One of the two suspects displayed a black handgun, according to police, and both demanded money. Police say the first suspect pistol-whipped the victim, then both men beat the victim as he lay on the ground.
Police say Gillespie and the second man grabbed the night deposit, then fled toward W. Washington.
