MANCHESTER, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis County man is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl at a local park.
According to police, DNA evidence linked 19-year-old Joshua D. Witkowski, of Winchester, to the sexual assault of the young female victim.
Authorities said Witkowski, who was 18 at the time of the alleged assault, met the victim some time ago and developed a relationship with her. He brought her to a secluded area in a Manchester neighborhood park, where he raped her.
The victim told her school counselor, who contacted police.
Witkowski was taken into custody on Tuesday.
Authorities say they believe Witkowski has met underage girls at local parks before and tricked them into friendships.
Anyone who believes they have been victims of Witkowski is asked to contact the Manchester Police Department at (636) 227-1410.
“We know it’s very personal and something victims don’t want to talk about a lot of times because their age and they don’t want their family members to think that they did something wrong, we want them to know they did nothing wrong, we want them to come forward, they can talk to us and be totally anonymous,” said Sgt. Dan Rehm with the Manchester Police Department.
Witkowski is at the St. Louis County jail on a $15,000 bond.
