MoDOT fines contractor for equipment failure that caused traffic problems

(KMOV) – Equipment failure was to blame for jamming traffic for hours on the Poplar Street Bridge Thursday morning
Crews planned to finish the road work near the westbound exit ramps of the bridge by 5 a.m., but the work lasted well past 9 a.m. and left thousands of drivers backed up for miles.
MoDOT had to do some emergency repairs on the bridge deck after some holes opened up. Their usual policy is to get the work done by rush hour and almost always make the deadline.
That contractor Concrete Stratagies has been fined $12,000 by MoDOT for not having the work done by 5:00 a.m.

But a piece of equipment broke and they had to wait until another one could be shipped in. The concrete was poured at 6 a.m., but then they had to wait for it to dry.
The question News 4 asked MoDOT was why didn't they tell us, so the media could get the word out to avoid the Poplar Street Bridge.

A spokesperson said they had a breakdown in communication and failed to get the word out. They admit the screw up but promise it's not the norm and will try to prevent from happening again.
