(KMOV) -- An elderly woman is dead after a multi-vehicle crash near Smithton, Illinois.
It happened around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon on Route 159 just south of Club Congress Road.
According to Illinois State Police, Rosemary Henrichs, 78, was killed in the crash.
Authorities say Henrichs was driving a Chevrolet Impala northbound and Michael Gibson, 20, was driving a Jeep Wrangler southbound on Route 159 at the time of the crash.
An unidentifed vehicle was in front of Henrichs' vehicle and had stopped to turn left onto Club Congress Road.
Investigators say that it appeard that Henrichs was late to notice that the vehicle had stopped. She reportedly lost control of her vehicle, drove off the road and struck a guardrail. Henrichs' vehicle then went back onto and across the road and into southbound traffic. That's when, police say, her vehicle was struck by Gibson's vehicle.
Henrichs was pronounced dead at the scene.
