(KMOV) – The shooter who killed a Sumner High School student is still on the run.
On Friday, Rahmell McNeil was killed in broad daylight. Police say he was walking away from a fight.
Friends and family are still in disbelief over what they call a senseless killing.
McNeil’s girlfriend, Erionna Willis, says he bought her a ring and they were supposed to get married after graduation.
Those are not the only big plans now abandoned.
This was to be McNeil’s last season with the Sumner football team before going off to college. His coach says the 17-year-old was a three-sport athlete who led by example.
“He was everything a young man should be at his age,” says the victim’s coach, James Williams. “It was senseless and shouldn’t have happened.”
McNeil was shot dead just yards from his home. And now a makeshift memorial marks the spot where he lost his life.
“Rahmel had a glow about him,” says Steve McNeil, the victim’s father.
Steve McNeil thinks he knows who killed his son. He says he even tried to talk to the teen’s parents to help defuse the tension.
“These kids are the next generation and if we shun them, we'll keep getting results like this,” he says.
Rahmel leaves behind four sisters; one of them is his twin.
He will be laid to rest Friday.
Police say they have strong leads in the case and say that an arrest is imminent.
