(KMOV) – The man accused of beating a 4-year-old South Roxana boy to death made a court appearance Tuesday.Sean Starwalt, 33, appeared before a judge on a video feed from the jail. The judge appointed a public defender for him, but denied bond. Starwalt faces first degree murder charges. The 34-year-old mother of the young boy, Patricia Cage, faced child endangerment charges. She will not appear before a judge until Wednesday.
Four-year-old Jeremiah Bradford was pronounced dead at a hospital yesterday. He was victim of severe beatings, prosecutors say.
Prosecutors say Starwalt beat the child in their South Roxana home and that cage did nothing to get medical attention for the boy. Paramedics say he was unresponsive by the time they got to him. Cage is being held on $150,000 bond. She could face 5 years in prison if convicted.
