A couple hundred people packed a hotel ballroom imploring the Missouri Gaming Commission to award or not award it's next casino license to companies wanting to build a casino in North St. Louis County near the Columbia Bottom Preservation Area or North St. Louis city near the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge.
Those who want a 7th casino in our region tout thousands of construction jobs for people who've been out of work too long and about 15-hundred full-time jobs once a casino opens.
Those who don't want it include the anti-gambling crowd, people concerned about the environment and those in the casino industry (an Ameristar representative spoke against another casino) who say the market is already saturated with casinos.
The Gaming Commission is considering two other casino proposals... one in Cape Girardeau and another in Sugar Creek near Kansas City.
The commission will hear from the casino companies next month and make it's decision by the end of the year. It will either pick one of the four proposals or decide not to issue another casino license in Missouri right now.
