Driver picking up debris causes multi-vehicle accident in downtown St. Louis

(KMOV) – Lanes are back open after a multi-vehicle crash on I-70 in downtown St. Louis.

It happened just before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of the depressed section of I-70.

Authorities said a driver traveling eastbound I-70 stopped to move debris out of the roadway which caused traffic to slow. As a result, a tractor trailer struck another tractor trailer. This caused a chain reaction among several vehicles with those vehicles striking one another. One of the trucks overturned.

Several people were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of I-70 have reopened.
