(KMOV)-- Three people were injured after a suspect led police on a high speed chase and crashed into a tree in Jennings.

Authorities say that a patrol officer spotted a car with four people inside sitting in the Family Dollar Parking Lot on 6444 West Florissant. The business was closed at that time.

When the officer pulled into the lot to question the people in the car, the driver took off at high speeds. Police say they never chased the suspects but followed at a distance.

News 4 is told the car crashed into a tree and caught on fire at the intersection of Wilborn and Lena. Authorities say the driver tried to take off on foot but police were able to catch the suspect. There were two passengers stuck in the car that had to be cut out, and one passenger is still at large.

Police say the three caught were taken to the hospital with non- life threatening injuries. The Chief says the driver will face charges after being released from the hospital later today.
