EAST RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee officials say at least 16 people were injured when a tour bus and car collided near the northbound welcome center on Interstate 75 near East Ridge.
East Ridge Public Safety Department spokesman Erik Hopkins said the USA Transport bus was carrying a group of students from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., home from a trip to Atlanta when it struck a Ford Mustang at about 2 p.m. EDT Sunday.
Hopkins said all 16 injured were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Hopkins says the driver of a Ford Mustang, 23-year-old Esdras Lopez Chavez of Chattanooga has been arrested and charged with no drivers license, no insurance and failure to maintain lane.
Hopkins says Chavez was entering the interstate and lost control of the car, striking the bus.
