St Mary’s 35 DuBourg 6
The South Side battle for the “wooden shoes” had a familiar ending. For the 14th consecutive year, the Dragons of St Mary’s (3-2) prevailed 35-6 in a AAA contest. Will Ruzicka led the SM flex-bone offense efficiently. He scored 3 TD’s and threw for a 4th score. Using the quick opening dive successfully to Alan Lee to set the table for the QB oriented offense, Ruzicka ran QB options, quick roll out passes to keep the Cavaliers defense off balance. The Dragons piled up over 400 yards of offense (300+ rushing and 100+ passing). DuBourg (1-4) scored late in the 4th quarter as Freshman Jerry McCloskey hit Cory Leiendecker with a 9 yard pass.
Parkway Central 50 Parkway West 7
The Parkway Central Colts got off to a fast start by scoring a touchdown on their first two possessions. Led by the outstanding tailback Mikquel Johnson who had touchdown runs of 22 and 25 yards, the Colts scored two scores in the first quarter. In the second quarter Central scored on touchdown passes of 72 and 30 yards from quarterback Matt Robinson to wide receiver Brandon Shepard. The score was 29 to 0 at halftime. The Colts began the second half with Johnson carrying the ball 5 times for 63 yards and his third touchdown of the night. Johnson finished the game with 219 yards on 18 carries, while Brandon Shepard caught two touchdowns, ran for a third, recovered a fumble and had an interception to lead the Colts to a an easy victory over West. West's touchdown came late in the 4th quarter on a 64 yard run by Ed Carter.
Howell North 40 Oakville 19
In a game filled with plenty of rushing yardage, it was the little-used pass game that broke open the game at Oakville. Howell North had just 7 completions and 79 passing yard for the game but 3 of them went for touchdowns ! QB Clint Toedtman threw to Steve Raines for two of the scores. Oakville scored first in the game running back Darrion Moore scored from 8 yards out. However, North scored the next 4 touchdowns of the game and won going away. Moore (Oakville) was tremendous all night. He carried the ball 22 times for 244 yards. The Tigers piled up 368 rushing yards throughout the game! How many times do you rush for 368 and lose by 21 ?
Valle Catholic 51 Crystal City 6
The Warriors stayed right on pace as they nearly hit right on the mark their 51 ppg game average as they dominated Crystal City 51-6 in a Mississippi Area Blue game. The Warriors (5-0) who finished 2nd in 2009 as they dropped a 21-17 championship game to Hamilton at the Dome, are anxiously looking to next week as they face the Westran Hornets (5-0), another ranked Class 1 team in Missouri.
