(KMOV)-- Friday is the first day in a new chapter for the Gateway Arch and arch grounds. The winning design team was introduced at a ceremony inside the old courthouse Friday morning.
The MVVA plan submitted by the team, headed up by landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh includes plans two cap I-70, create a new entrance facing downtown and venues for activities that draw people to the arch and give them things to do and that will encourage them to stay longer.
Over the next 90 days the concepts presented by the winning design team will refined and turned into concrete plans. The work is to be completed by the 50th anniversary of the arch in 2015.
