(KMOV) -- A woman was arrested for firing a gun near a group of people in St. Charles early Monday morning.

Police said 23-year-old Melissa Pontius fired a gun inside the St. Charles City Hall parking garage at about 1:15 a.m. Pontius had an argument with a group of people and then, while riding in a car leaving the garage, fired one shot from her gun at that group near Main Street.

Police have not said what started the argument. The bullet did not hit anyone.

Pontius was charged with shooting a firearm at a person, which is a felony. She is being held on $40,000 bail.

A male friend was with Pontius when she fired the gun. He was not charged with anything.
