(KMOV) -- A fundraiser will be held Saturday for a local soldier who died on his 30th birthday in Afghanistan after he was struck by machine gun fire.

Sgt. 1st Class Aaron Grider, 30, of Brighton, Ill. was assigned to U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C. He was on his second tour in Afghanistan.  He served seven tours in Iraq.

He leaves behind his wife and 4-year-old daughter. 

The fundraiser will take place on Saturday, September 25, from Noon to 4 p.m. at Leroy’s bar at Holiday Shores. Admission is $20 with food and drink included.

Friends of the Grider family organized the fundraiser for the family’s travel expenses. Any additional money go toward an educational fund for Aaron Grider’s daughter.
