(KMOV) -- Four homes were evacuated and a driver suffered minor injuries after an accident involving a gas tanker in St. Charles County on Monday.
Earlier in the day, the accident shut down Highway N between Ellerman Oak and Shaffer Roads, according to Traffic.com.
The O’Fallon Fire Department reports that crews will likely be on the scene until 10 p.m. unloading fuel from the 8,000-gallon tank. About half of the tanker has been pumped out.
They say there is a small leak in the tanker, but crews are working to remove the fuel without losing more gas than necessary.
Crews are working to prevent fuel from seeping into the creek. They are also concerned about vapors from the truck.
