Soap opera addicts plan rally to save shows

(KMOV) -- Soap opera addicts trying to save their soaps are holding a rally outside KMOV-TV from 11a to 2p Monday.

CBS in Los Angeles is where a lot of soap operas are produced. Since these folks don't live in L.A., they're coming to the CBS affiliate in St. Louis.

Lots of these women have been watching these soaps their entire adult lives, some even longer.

It's not CBS or any other TV network that's cancelling them. It's the shows themselves that can't afford to stay on the air.

Ratings have been hemorrhaging for years and soap operas like "As the World Turns" and "Guiding Light", which are no more, cut back on actors and studio time but still couldn't make it work.

Now these women said they're fighting to save the entire soap opera genre. Several rallies are scheduled all over the country Monday as these soap fans try to make their own daytime history.
