Jefferson City building locked down after receiving letter

 

(AP) -- A letter containing an unknown substance prompted a brief lockdown at a Jefferson City building that houses a Missouri state agency.

The letter was delivered Thursday to the Missouri Division of Professional Registration and Licensing received the letter Thursday. KRCG-TV reports an employee had a skin reaction from opening the letter.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Mike O'Connell says preliminary tests indicated the substance was a prescription pain medication.

O'Connell says police responded around 10:30 a.m. and the building returned to normal around 12:30 p.m.

The office building is about 5 miles west of the state Capitol. O'Connell says law officers are investigating.
