(KMOV) -- Two volunteer firefighters are recovering after a chimney fell on top of them overnight.

The men were Bismarck Volunteer firefighters responding to a house fire in Doe Run, Missouri.

The flames broke out around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday on Hildebrecht Road. When fire crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed.

Crews noticed that the house was starting to shift and then the walls and the chimney came crashing down.

The two firefighters were hit by the chimney and rushed to the hospital. They were both treated for minor injuries and released around 7:00 a.m.

The Doe Run Volunteer Fire Chief tell News 4 that the house was vacant and had been unoccupied for at least a month.

No word yet on what caused the house fire.  The state fire marshals office is investigating.
