(KMOV)-- A man is dead after a house fire in Hanley Hills that happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 7900 block of Alert.

Authorities said there is fire damage to the house and the windows appear to be blown out. A neighbor across the street from the scene of the fire said she heard what sounded like an explosion, and called 911.

However, firefighters are not saying that this was an explosion.

Police said they were at the home earlier Tuesday morning after the man’s employer called and reported that he didn’t show up to work.

St. Louis County arson and explosives unit is investigating the incident.

The victim's name has not been released yet. No one else was in the house at the time.

No word yet on the cause. Authorities said the fire started somewhere in a back room.

Laclede Gas said the gas at the home has been disconnected since March. The fire does not appear to be suspicious.
