(KMOV) -- A Metro-East man who was found unconscious in his neighbor’s driveway is dead and investigators say it was a person’s fist that killed him.
It happened Monday at a home in the 5200 of Lakeview Drive in Granite City, Illinois.
A neighbor called the Madison County sheriff’s office to the scene around 7:00 p.m.
He told authorities that Dean Worthen, 46, had been dropped off by an unknown vehicle and was laying unresponsive in his driveway.
The neighbor told police that Worthen appeared to be intoxicated when he walked into his driveway. He then saw Worthen’s eyes roll back just before he fell over.
Worthen was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy that was performed the next day raised suspicion with investigators. Authorities discovered that the statements they received during the initial investigation were not true.
Detectives later found out that Worthen had been punched as he exited a vehicle when he was dropped off the night before.
The person that punched Worthen was taken in for questioning on Wednesday. That person was released pending a final report from the Madison County coroner’s office.
Police have not released the name of the person who was taken in for questioning.
