(KMOV)-- Six girls were taken into custody following a big fight at Normandy Senior High School just one day after a student was shot outside of the school.
Six girls are being held at the Wellston Police department after getting into a fight after school. All six are waiting for their parents to pick them up from the police station. Some are Normandy students, others were not. No word if any charges will be filed.
On Wednesday a student, who was an innocent bystander, was shot in the leg during an after-school scuffle. Police said they now think the suspects in the case may be students and the alleged gunman, said to be 16-18 years old, has not been caught. Police also said the gun was shot at the ground and ricocheted into the student's leg.
The school district hired security guards and off-duty police to patrol the grounds after the last bell.
The Wellston police chief said he does not believe either the fight Thursday or Wednesday had anything to do with rivalry retaliation after Wellston dissolved into the Normandy school district.
