(KMOV) -- The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after two teens were injured in a drive-by shooting near downtown St. Louis Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses say the male victim approached the car and allegedly exchanged words with the suspects. That's when one of the male suspects pulled out a gun and began shooting.

The suspects then fled the scene, driving north on 16th Street to Cass Avenue.

The female victim was shot in the hip, and the male victim was hit in the ankle. Both were treated at an area hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Police described one of the suspects as a black man in his late teens. He was wearing a white t-shirt. The other suspects were described as a black female and a black male. The man was seen wearing a blue-hooded sweatshirt.

No suspects are in custody at this time.
