(KMOV) – Big Bend Road is shut down at the railroad crossing near Geyer Road in Kirkwood.
The closure is expected to last through Friday afternoon.
Local residents say they anticipate a rough commute throughout the week as drivers use alternate routes to get to work.
“It's going to be pretty rough just getting through and it'll be a headache for a lot of drivers” said commuter Griffin Goodrich.
"The tracks have been messed up for a while, so I'm glad they’re getting the work done; they're kind of rough," said Kirkwood resident Charlie Woods. "I've lived in Kirkwood all my life, they're not so bad you can't drive, it just seems like there always working on them.”
Kirkwood has set up detour routes drivers can use to get around the closed section.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured to travel south on Geyer Road to Watson Road, east to Lindbergh, and back to Big Bend. Westbound traffic will travel north on Kirkwood Road, west on Rose Hill, and south on Geyer back to Big Bend.
“I just try to sit through it. No one likes it, it's a pain, but I just try not to get too much road rage as possible and sit through it,” said Goodrich.
Meramec Community College being on spring break during the week should ease the congestion, according to local drivers.
