(KMOV) – St. Charles officials want to expand South Main Street with additional lanes, but the project is forcing some residents from their homes.
Project officials say the expansion includes raising the road 23-feet, which would impair nearby homes.
Some home owners have been speaking out against the plan.
Greg Feltz has lived in his South Main home for 13-years, and now has to move. He says he is displeased over the decision.
Others say the city has treated them well by paying moving expenses and helping with down-payments on new homes.
City engineers will begin Monday tearing down several properties and shut down South Main for construction.
