ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A flu outbreak in the St. Louis area has forced hundreds to stay home from work and classes to be canceled at several schools in an effort to contain the virus.
It is the latest start to a flu season in 30 years and it could last into May. Officials tell News 4 that a flu vaccination is the best way to prevent getting the virus and the shot is still available.
Doctors urge flu patients to stay at home until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours. It is also recommended that individuals cover their mouth and wash their hands frequently to slowdown the spread of the virus.
