(KMOV) -- Police are searching for a man who carjacked a woman, roughed her up and ran her over with the vehicle at a truck stop in Alorton, Illinois early Thursday morning.
The incident happened around 2:00 a.m. at the Flying J truck stop located at 140 Racehorse Drive, just east of I-255.
A clerk on duty said a man who frequents the area and begs for money approached a woman loading clothes into a white Chevy Malibu.
“She turned and, as she did, she was struck from the rear and went to the ground. At the time the suspect took her car along with her dog,” said Gary Brewer of the Metro East Auto Task Force.
He then pulled her out of her vehicle and hit her multiple times.
Police said the woman confronted the suspect as he started to back up her vehicle and was knocked to the ground by her own car door.
Surveillance video that caught of the end of the incident shows the car door was still open and the trunk lid up as the suspect raced out of the parking lot in reverse.
He was last seen heading eastbound on Illinois Route 15.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and took the victim to an area hospital in unknown condition.
The woman told police the car she was in was a rental. That car was found less than a mile from the truck stop with the woman’s dog still inside in good condition.
Police continue to search for the suspect. He’s described as a black male, about 6 feet 3 inches tall with a slim build and a closely cropped haircut.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (866)-317-TIPS.
