ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A legal battle over allowing students to switch from a failing school district into a more stable district is about to reach its end in a St. Louis County court.
A family of two students is suing the school districts of Clayton and the city of St. Louis and is standing behind a Missouri law that allows students at unaccredited districts to attend a school in a neighboring district at the city school district’s expense.
City school district officials say it cannot afford to pay tuition for every student that wants to leave. Clayton School District officials say such a law would overwhelm its classrooms.
A decision in the case may come as early as April.
