(KMOV)—Illinois State Police charged a 24-year-old man with driving under the influence after his car lost control and flipped in Jerseyville Monday Night.
According to reports, Israel Chipol-Temicha was driving his Dodge Dakota northbound on June Street when he lost control and veered off the roadway. His car then struck a utility pole and flipped several times before coming to rest on its roof.
Police say the two passengers, 25-year-old Mateo Chipol-Seba and 38-year-old Eloy Marcal suffered only minor injuries. They were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Chipol-Temicha was seriously injured in the accident; he was air-lifted to a St. Louis hospital.
Police charged Chipol-Temicha with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol as well as Improper Lane Usage, Driving an Uninsured Motor vehicle, and Driving with Suspended/Revoked Driver License. He was also charged for not wearing a seat belt.
His passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of impact.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
