EDWARDSVILLE, Illnois -- A southwestern Illinois man has been sentenced to two and a half years of probation in the accidental drunken smothering of his 3-month-old daughter while he was passed out.
Jeremy Pride, 26, of South Roxana pleaded guilty Monday in Madison County to a felony count of child endangerment. Prosecutors had charged him three days earlier.
Authorities say Pride was drunk and holding Callie Pride in his arms on a sofa in November when he passed out and fell on the floor on top of the baby. She died later at an Alton hospital.
As part of his probation, Pride must complete alcohol counseling and parenting classes.
