Shots fired at SWAT team in north St. Louis, suspect arrested

ST. LOUIS -- Police are investigating after members of SWAT were shot at while executing a search warrant in north St. Louis, Monday morning.

According to police, members of the SWAT team were executing a search warrant in the 4000 block of Shreve at 11 a.m., when the suspect fired several shots at the officers.  Steven Haywood, 24, faces four counts of first degree assault on a law enforcement officer and four counts of armed criminal action, in addition to the sale of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, third degree assault on a law enforcement officer and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

No officers were hit, but they returned fire.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside the home. He eventually came out and was taken into custody after resisting arrest.

A woman and child were found inside the house but were fine.

No injuries were reported.
