Physician license suspended in Illinois after federal indictment

(KMOV) –Dr. Abid Nisar’s license has been suspended in Illinois for allegedly displaying “unprofessional and immoral conduct” after federal investigators say he purchased more than $300,000 worth of chemotherapy drugs and had them illegally shipped to the U.S.; Dr. Nisar has pleaded guilty to the federal charges.

Authorities say Dr. Nisar purchased drugs from Canada to make the cost cheaper but allegedly billed Medicare and Medicaid full price.

The Missouri Board of Healing Arts has not taken disciplinary action against Dr. Nisar according to officials, and he still has a working license in the state of Missouri.

The U.S. Department of Justice says Dr. Nisar and two employees of a California company put lives at risk for a profit.

Dr. Nisar is currently restricted from participating in Medicare or Medicaid for at least seven years according to authorities.
