(KMOV.com)- MetroLink will continue rail grinding maintenance work in Illinois on Saturday and Sunday night.
Metro says the rail grinding is to extend the life of the rail and provide a smoother ride for the passenger. Red Line customers should expect delays between 5 to 10 minutes, while Blue Line services will not be affected.
Area residents also should not be concerned if they see sparks from the rail grinder. A fire suppression crew will be following directly behind the grinder. In addition, Metro will be in contact with emergency responders.
Rail grinding crews will work on the tracks between College MetroLink Station and Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, and then start again at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
