Local coupon site closes, leaves customers and businesses out money

(KMOV) – A local online coupon service has suddenly gone out of business leaving customers and small shop owners on the hook for thousands of dollars.

Many small businesses use sites such as “Saint Louis Daily Deals” to get their names out there and attract new customers.  Customers then use the coupons to save money.

For example, you want a manicure.  You would pay StLouisDailyDeals.com for a coupon to a salon.  That salon then gets a cut of the profit for the manicure.  St. Louis Daily Deals would keep the rest.

The problem is…the internet-based coupon service has closed and pocketed the cash.  Several St. Louis companies have sold thousands of dollars in services but can’t deliver because they have not been paid.

The owners of Steel Magnolias Spa and Boutique in Kirkwood are waiting on a check for facials they sold through the deals website.  After St. Louis Daily Deals unexpectedly closed…it has left customers with useless pieces of paper.

News 4’s Maggie Crane decided to try to track down the website’s owners, Lorilee and Bill Cumming, but there number was disconnected and no one would answer at their house.

The Better Business Bureau hasn’t had any luck either, but News 4 will stay on top of this story until we get answers.
