ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Police are currently investigating a shot fired at the Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. 

The incident happened around 2 p.m.  Police tell News 4 that an outpatient veteran with a small caliber gun accidentally dropped the gun and it discharged.  The veteran had the gun legally, but no guns are allowed at the hospital complex.  It is not known if the veteran is in police custody.

In addition, two Mehlville district facilities were on lockdown as a result of the shooting incident.  Beasley Elementary and the John Cary Early Childhood Education Center were on lockdown for a short time, but have since reopened.
