Madison, Illinois (KMOV.com) – The Madison County coroner is reporting that a woman died during a car and train collision Tuesday afternoon.

Latasha Wilson, 29, of East St. Louis was driving south on Route 3 in her 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. She was turning east on Bissell Street and crossing the railroad tracks where she was hit by a southbound Amtrak train around noon.

The view from SkyZoom 4 showed that a car suffered heavy damage and crashed into a railway shed near the crossing. The Amtrak train was stopped on the tracks and blocking the crossing.

Authorities are still trying to find out if the gate arms were up or down at the crossing. Wilson was transported to Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Illinois and was pronounced dead at 12:50 pm.An autopsy showed Wilson died as a result of neck trauma.

Routine testing for alcohol and drugs will be performed. The accident investigation by Madison Police is still ongoing.
