Molina wants to finish career in St. Louis

(BaseballStL) -- I sat down with Yadier Molina today. He is entering his ninth year in the big leagues and has accomplished plenty. He is the reigning four time Gold Glove Award winner, and has two World Series rings.

I asked Molina if he thinks he is the best catcher in the game; his response was 'I think I am the best.'

Molina is coming off his best offensive season of his career. in 2011, he batted over .300, hit 14 home runs, and collected 65 RBI's. He told me he wants to be known as more than just a defensive catcher. He said his goal is to catch a good game, and he's not worried about hitting a bunch of homers. Molina said his number one job is behind the plate.

This season will be different for Molina; his great friend Albert Pujols won't be at his side. The two are very close. Molina said he will miss Albert, wishes him the best, and now the team must move on.

Another story line regarding Molina this season will be his contract. Molina will be a free agent after this season. The 29-year-old told me he would love to stay in St. Louis for the rest of his career, but says baseball is a business and he will do, "what's best for my family, hopefully we can work something out."

I asked Molina how much is he worth? He said with a smile, "I don't know, you put in a number, I don't like to think about numbers."

There are no ‘new’ updates on the catcher's future. He said he can't disclose the details of the situation but both sides, (Molina's agent and the Cardinals) are "still talking."
