GODFREY, Ill. (KMOV)—Authorities say an elderly man who was reported missing Tuesday has been found safe on the grounds of the retirement community he was suspected to have wandered away from.

The son of David Winnett, 85, filed a missing persons report after he could not find his father during his daily check at the Methodist Village Retirement Community, Tuesday morning.

Winnett was last seen in the main office of the retirement community at 9 a.m.

On Wednesday morning, police reported they found Winnett on the grounds of the retirement community, about a half-mile away from his building.  According to reports, Winnett was located in a thick wooded area in a dry creek bed.  Due to a steep incline, he was unable to get out of the creek.  He was treated by EMS crews and later taken to an area hospital.  Besides some scapes and bruises, Mr. Winnett is expected to be OK.

Several area departments and K-9 units assisted in the search.
