COLUMBIA, Ill. (KMOV)—A woman is hospitalized in St. Louis after a fire broke out inside her Columbia, Illinois home late Tuesday night.
Crews were called to the scene shortly around 10 p.m. to a fire on East Liberty Street across from Immaculate Conception School.
Columbia's fire chief said the woman, who is in her late 40s, suffered smoke inhalation as crews rescued her from the burning house.
Columbia firefighters teamed up with units from Millstadt and Dupo to put out the flames. Between 50-60 firefighters responded to the scene.
The fire is believed to have started in the living room. The blaze left the house with extensive water, smoke, structural damage.
East Liberty Street was shut down for most of the night as crews cleared the scene.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal has taken over the investigation. Columbia police will also assist in determining the cause of the fire.
