Renovations start in Grant Park after Lollapalooza

CHICAGO (AP) -- Promoters of the Lollapalooza music festival say they will pay about $150,000 to restore Grant Park after this year’s event.

Officials say landscaping work started Tuesday in Grant Park, which has hosted Lollapalooza for the last eight years. Improvements are expected to take a week to 10 days to complete. The Chicago Park District and several local landscaping firms are overseeing the work. It will include planting new sod and minor shrub replacement.

Promoters say about 300,000 people attended the three-day festival earlier this month. Rains on the second day of the festival left patches of Grant Park muddied but not as bad as last year when promoters spent more than $1 million to restore rain-soaked areas of Grant Park.
